Table Selection
After an hour and half drive from Scarborough to Niagara, it takes a toll on your body and mind; long enough for the weather to change from warm skies to snowfall.
The one thing that keeps me coming back to Niagara, is their system of reserving a spot for you so when u get there, u don't have to wait in line like a loser. This can improve your EV... if you hit the table games a lot it can be vital to your success.
Upon my arrival, I head to the 1-2nl tables, and it’s quite dead at this time as its 1am on a Thursday night with roughly 4 tables going on. Not a lot of loose actions, as the tables are filled with sharks... I reach my first table only to see familiar faces; I play it patiently but realize it’s harder to win at this sort of table... these players are tight aggressive and make moves as if they are playing at a 5-5 table.. I know if I stay here long enough I can get a couple of reads and break them but it will be a lot of work... as I continue my play I realize a quote "listen, here's the thing, if you can't spot the sucker in your 1st half-hour of the table, then you are the sucker." from Rounders,
and its true.. I was already at this table and knew that it was filled with sharks and not a lot of loose money flying around… I thought to myself... why drive hour and an half to play with sharks when I could be playing against amateurs back at home. After I dropped my first bill, I told myself that TABLE SELECTION was the key, and moved to another table. In which I found the fishes... swarming with alcohol, and lack of ability. I took control of the table and recovered what I loss quickly. And soon after cruised to a nice 300$ profit for the day.
The lesson here is table selection, why drive 500km’s and play players that are better or as good as yourself, when u could be making money on weaker players.
find that atm that keeps buying in,
find that sucker that had one to many beers
find that player that when they say “its my first time” its actually their first time as they shake repetitively
find that girl that busts and goes to her boyfriend like an atm
find that kid that thinks he is the best player since Phil Ivey
find that sucker that plays poker like the table games..
find that fish!!
Poker is not a game of ego, but a game of business. And if you treat it like a business you will see profits. What’s the point of saying you’re the best player when u can’t show it on the score sheet. Consistency is the key!
*note – roll is at 1800$ in the last two weeks, 5 winning sessions. 18% towards my goal for the end of the year* - keep grindin’
